- SAN JOAQUIN
- INFORMATION GUIDE
-
- This guide contains information
about all stations on the San Joaquin rail corridor, listed in
order from the Bay Area east Stockton, and then south down the
San Joaquin Valley to Bakersfield. We have listed directions
to the station from the nearest main highway, and the phone numbers
of local transit agencies, taxi services, hotels and car rental
companies. We have also listed some scenic or tourist attractions
in the area. Facilities at the staffed stations, such as snack
bars and/or information kiosks, are also shown. In addition,
the ticket agents at our stations will be happy to assist you
with information on their local area.
- Please be aware that reservations
are required for most hotel and car rental agencies listed. Unless
otherwise indicated, any of the hotels or car rental agencies
listed will pick up or drop off passengers at the Amtrak station
if prior arrangements are made.
- For schedule information,
consult the Amtrak California San Joaquin Route schedule folder
or the Amtrak California Statewide timetable. Schedule and fare
information is also available from Amtrak at the number shown
in the station listings, or toll-free at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245).
Information is also available on the World Wide Web at http//www.dot.ca.gov/hq/rail.
- Reservations are not required
on the San Joaquins. Custom Class seating is available on some
trains for a modest fee, and reservations are required for this
option. Custom Class service guarantees you a seat with extra
leg room, coffee, tea, juice and a newspaper.
- Tickets may be purchased
at any Amtrak ticket office, at most travel agencies, by mail,
or (when boarding at an unstaffed station) from the train conductor.
Amtrak does not accept personal checks in California, except
from customers age 62 or older. Amtrak accepts all major credit
cards at all ticketing locations. Credit cards may be used on
board trains for tickets costing $25.00 or more (cash must be
used to purchase tickets on board costing less than $25.00).
- Most of our trains are
equipped with new California Coach and Dining Cars. We have also
added a new menu to all of our trains with complete breakfast,
lunch and dinner entrees. Snacks, sandwiches, soft drinks, beer
and cocktails are also available.
- Checked baggage service
is also available on some trains, too and from staffed stations
(consult Amtrak or one of the timetables for information). On
other trains, baggage can be stored overhead or on baggage racks
near car ends.
